The Andrew Sherratt Trust

The death of Professor Andrew Sherratt in early 2006 robbed us of a scholar who always saw prehistory as the grandest of narratives, and a teacher whose eloquence and vision inspired those lucky enough to have been his students.

It is therefore fitting that we should establish a fund to remember Andrew through international scholarship and a commitment to those at the beginning of their academic careers. We intend The Andrew Sherratt Trust to distribute funds annually on the basis of open competition, facilitating postgraduate students in Old World Prehistory, and from academic institutions anywhere in the world, to travel or to gain access to resources that would otherwise be unavailable to them.

A core fund has already been established and this letter of appeal is to seek further financial contributions to ensure that a level of support worthy of Andrew's memory be available to future generations of students.

In the first instance the trust will be administered by Professor John Bennet (Head of Department of Archaeology, Sheffield), Dr Cyprian Broodbank (UCL), Dr Joan Oates (Cambridge), Professor Tony Wilkinson (Durham) and Professor Norman Yoffee (Michigan).
